@Ku'ualohapau'ole

For a start, you know nothing of me and my heritage thank you. I am Samoan who isn't 'white' as you suggest, who lives in the UK as of the age of 21, thank you, and what mud do you want to sling at Croc? Croc has been doing this for years and was taught from the Sulu'ape family, namely Paulo and then Petelo... Please tell me they know nothing of this work!!! They are world renowned for what they do.
Secondly I was making the same point as you, people wouldn't just take what they see off the net and get the exact same thing, a good artist will work directly onto the skin and freehand a design before inking it. Each design should be personal and without the meanings that people put to them, the 'sun' so many people mention isn't even a sun, it's fish heads from fishing, I can also see some fern in there and some Greek patterning.
I EARNED my Malu thank you
Not a single piece of my information comes from Wiki, but is handed down from the real Sulu'ape family, via Croc to me as I am being taught traditional Tatau by him, no machines here
Lastly, I suggest you take a chill pill. High Blood Pressure much?
ps: I love that you have 'taken' your name from a popular song...

After actually looking at the tattoo, its not even authentic Polynesian, its a fake "tourist" tattoo which is what i call tattoos that people get which make them look like idiots. What i said still stands though, if you are poly, have enough common sense to know its disrespectful.

To AnnonymousRubyRiot,
You say that all poly tats are not real except samoan and marquesan but that is no where near correct. You are talking out of your rear end without any knowledge on the subject.
"And my qualifications in all this? Easy, I work with a guy called Croc from Rarotonga. I am friends with Tricia Allen. I know the greats in the UK, Tomas Tomas, Chris Higgins, Neil Bass, and importantly, Alex Binnie."--------- really? So you think you are qualified to speak on this issue because you WORK with someone who is poly, and know a WHITE woman who wrote a book about poly tats, and know other white people who dont even DO actual traditional poly tats? Youre kidding right?!?! MY qualifications, IM Hawaiian, Samoan, and Tahitian and have lived in all 3 locales, i have traditional poly tats AND am the 5x great granddaughter of a Hawaiian royalty who is known throughout polynesia for his full body tat. You people need to stop getting your info off of wikipedia, seriously.

Why is it okay for you to A) steal someone elses tattoo, and B) have a POLYNESIAN tattoo if you are NOT even Polynesian? What is it with white people and being so unhappy about their own ethnicity that they have to copy other ethnicities. Polynesian tattoo's hold a story about that particular persons heritage, it has significance into their family etc, to copy that is like tattooing someone elses geneology on your arm. You know better then to give your children african names because you know its culturally insensitive yet there are so many white people trying to give their kids Polynesian names, knock it off, accept that your white. Study up on YOUR culture and find a tattoo that represents who YOU are, not who you wish you were.

The artist of this work
by: Helen porter

Hey guys thanks for the good comments! It was a labour of love and the first of many similar pieces! For those who can't tell, it's not the rocks tattoo! I used a stencil for the very first section on the top arm and the rest was freehand! It's how I prefer to do all of my work! I wont send templates and ask kindly that u dont copy as it is unique to my client. surely you would prefer a custom design piece that no one else has ?? thats what paul deserves! www.evolutionskinstudios.co.uk

by: AnonymousRubyRiot

first of I'm a girl,
secondly I KNOW this work as I am a tatau artist
Thirdly, don't have an aneurysm mate! geez, I'm letting people know there isn't a black and white meaning to any of this, a lot of people say there is but there isn't.
I take it on the authority of Tricia Allen, the grandmother of modern polynesian/marquesan/hawaiian about this matter, not a scrote keyboard warrior from the net.
And it isn't fair for the guy with the original art to have his original art to be ripped off by people who can't be bothered to go and find a bloody good artist to do this for them freehand. But I guess you'd rather spend £300+ on a pair of trainers that will last a few months than a fine piece of tattoo work which will last a time time. Douche

this its to anonymous ruby root
by: Anonymous

This is for anonymous ruby root I would like to hey a half sleeve chest piece but I would like a few symbols or stores of my own who can I go to or ask about these types of things I don't want just any pattern put on me I want it to mean something please email me at arsenosm@gmail.com

So many people think they know. They don't!
by: AnonymousRubyRiot

Firstly this is a LOT different from Dwayne Johnsons tattoo if you look closely and this one is done correctly with a good amount of space.
These tattoo's are NOT about the black in the skin but more the negative space left, or the 'flesh'

As for people asking for 'meanings' to this kind of thing... If ANYONE tells you there are specific meanings to this kind of work they are misinformed. For further information see Tricia Allen and her books. Only some Marquesan and some Samoan has meaning but you've all got to understand this is basically a revival of styles that were lost many many years ago due to missionaries going to the South Pacific and telling the people there that 'Tattoos are the devils creation'
True meanings of this stuff is all but gone. Whoever has meanings attached to Dwaynes tattoo work is also massively wrong! The thing that people call 'a sun' is in fact a fish head!

And to the person who said there is Maori and Tahitian in there, there isn't.

And my qualifications in all this? Easy, I work with a guy called Croc from Rarotonga. I am friends with Tricia Allen. I know the greats in the UK, Tomas Tomas, Chris Higgins, Neil Bass, and importantly, Alex Binnie. What these people don't collectively know just simply isn't worth knowing.
As for time, you are looking at least 2 days for a 1/2 sleeve and chest plate. More than likely 3 days for a full sleeve and chest plate. It ain't cheap but look for someone with a LOT of blackwork experience, who doesn't use stencils, and who does a day rate of approx £450 to £500. Any more for a day rate YOU ARE BEING RIPPED OFF!

And too all those asking for a 'template'? IF you came to my studio, or to any of the people mentioned, you will be told in no uncertain terms that this tattoo 'belongs to someone' and you 'cannot have it'
If a tattoo artist is willing to rip off someone elses work then they are not good tattoo artists and are basically scum. Yeah I said it. There is too much art theft in my industry. Think for yourselves people!!!
If you use any of the above artists you will have designs drawn directly onto the skin and refined, and this can take up to 3 hours to do, before a tattoo MACHINE (not gun! if an artist refers to a 'gun' they are idiots)these designs need to compliment YOUR body, YOUR frame, YOUR size...YOU. Not someone else. We NEVER use stencils for this work. It is sacrilege to do so.

So go my pretties, find an artist with some ability and some integrity and you'll be amazed at what YOU can have tattooed onto yourself. Why be a sheep when you can be a true individual.

Gorgeous tribal artwork!! (@_@)
by: Alexiah

Hi there, I'm an artist myself (not tattoo artist), just want to say you (guy in the picture) looks dashing*cheers*, the Polynesian art work done on your arms and chest is very lovely and brings out the beauty and manliness in you. Would look great as a mural on the wall too, or as a painting.

Awesome!
by: Poly-Boy

Great piece, it fits you. For the Artist; Great job. Very few Tattoo Artist could have pull this off as clean as you did. You blended different styles together (Marquesan, Polyensian, Samoan, Maori Kiri-Turi, and some Tahiti style), which makes this piece unique in itself. I do not know what you charged for this multi-phase tattoo, but I would have charge a good coin. This piece is time consuming and painful, but well worth it.

If this piece is not proprietary, please send me the flat pattern/sketch for the chest piece and arm sleeve. Please send to w13sniper@aol.com.

Thank You.

Nice tattoo
by: Ramon Tiburon

Nice tattoo , it looks more aztec than anything else . I was looking up aztec tattoos and this one is the best I've seen except I can't see the rest of it only the front . I know theirs like a dozen requests just scrolling down for a second , but if possible please send me the layout of the tattoo at ramonmigueltorres@yahoo.com . I could also give you information on what the tattoo means seeing the whole big picture instead of a quarter . Number of things change meaning when put together .

Sick man Sick

Damn badass!!! And in my opinion your tat is better looking than the Rock, sick man . Can you send me a print of it front and back I would appreciate it ... Mail : alberto_rodriguez80@msn.com 👏👏👏👏

Dudes Tat
by: Derrick

Dude its an amazing tattoo, it definitely isnt the rocks tat it two totally differant cultures it seems to me the rocks is purely and specifically Samoan whereas I think this one resembles more of an aztec type of art by looking at the sun and characters around it. Thats just an observation but yea I dont really think it resembles polynesian culture so much as central american such as Aztec specifically, possibly Mayan, or it may be traced to the Incas (more south american). Either way amazing art and I agree with all you guys who say it a nice piece and just let the man do what he wants with his Money and his person. Nice tat though, Id like something like that detailed and very similar areas covered like chest shoulder and prob just the upper arm for me but with Celtic designs bc Id like to stay true to my heritage and I dont want to offend or step on anyones toes with a tattoo from a culture I dont belong to unless Im giving a blessing from someone within that specific culture. Thats just me though, ttyl everyone.

tribals
by: Anonymous

Polynesian tribal tattoos have meanings based on culture, tribes, ranks and life stories based on their lives growing up in that culture. Its a very nice piece you have, it just might offend some true polynesians who are proud of their culture. So if you get more tribals you might want to do more research, cause you might not want to get a high rank tattoo and walk around not knowing about it.

tat meanings
by: Anonymous

your tat looks awsome props to the artist who worked on it and props to you for getting it done.
i personally agree with the person who said people that get random tats just coz they like it aint full quid but like you said you put meaning into that tat, obviously that does look similar to the rocks tat but hey, as long as you can tell the story that you want it to tell is all that matters and by the short bit you wrote about it, its the same as the rocks reason for getting it done, there is a web page that has the meanings of the rocks tat if you wanna look it up....tats with meaning are the best ones to get, but looks like you got it mixed hawaiian, samoan taulima and some form of maori/polynesian artwork in there, mixed stories but as long as you can tell it thats all that matters

Nice piece
by: Anonymous

Great tattoo.. Meaning wise for yur chest plate means a new day new era a new dawn, it has war and peace in there so it's a tat that a warrior would get after surving a battle... For the sleeve it tells a story but it's kinda mixed up its not the right order so it harder to read cause each symbol would tell a story but story changes is its next to a another symbols that actually cancels each other out.. Who ever put the sleeve together got the symbols order wrong but it's nice piece if u don't know how to read it? Just dOnt go to a OG polyneshian might get offended.

What's With The Haters?
by: Ankhorite

Jeeeeez, what is the MATTER with the grumpy people on here?

The tat is beautiful, and permit me to point out (heterosexual female here) that the man with the tat is more beautiful than the ink is.

So lighten up. Great tattoo on a gorgeous body. It makes him happy. I'm sure it makes his lover(s) happy, too.

And if you're not one of them, why make your dislike so personal? He's a man, not a walking museum of antique polynesian design. He's a living man, tattoo is a living art, and both are free to evolve in ways that don't suit every single soul on the planet. Ptui, haters! Relax!

copy cat
by: Anonymous

obvious u dont know anything about these type of tattoo's ... every polynesian tattoo has a saying ... And incase knowbody's knows what your tattoo is , look up dwayne Johnson or even better THE ROCK cause bro you just stole his tattoo design and his story , not cool at all .....

you do you
by: -T-

I don't usually post on these, but I've been flipping through different sites trying to find out what different symbols meant and this popped up. First I'd like to say great tat....the artist is definately worth checking out, that's the next page I'm going to. Thanks for the tip. 2ND, as anyone who appreciates art then you know everybody has different styles of what they like and appreciate and for all of you retarded motherfuckers insulting this dude for getting something he liked or that had some meaning to him should mind your own fucking business. All that matters is he liked it enough to get it perminantly put on him and that there was a tattoo artist out there who did an amazing job on it.

NICE!

3/4 sleeve
by: Blender1970

Great tattoo , it doesnt have to represent anything about you.
If you like it then get it !!

lets clear a few things up!!!
by: the person in the picture,

Firstly can i thank the two people who posted positive comments about my tattoo, myself and my tattoo artist are extremely pleased with the outcome of it, and i cant thank her (yes a she!!) enough for doing such an amazing job on this, if you think this is a fake post please check out her website, google pink ink and follow links and they will come up, now that is cleared up i must turn my attention to the half wit the posted something along the lines of me missing a few brain cells, wow, strong words but really are they meaningful!!? think about it, appriciate good art work, the piece is sentimental to myself as represents myself and my family in a protective surrounding which is what i was looking for in the tattoo, admitidly not so much the traditional way of doing polynesian pieces and is not caused to offend or look as is quoted "sick" , just there has been alot of blogs on this people saying that it is their artwork or even that they are me!!! . going to finish on a positive note and once again thanks to the guys who posted positive on this piece please check out her website you will not be disapointed,

Sweet sleeve Bro!

Nice sleeve
by: eddo

Now this is a lovely tattoo.

I have been looking to get a polynesian half sleeve tattoo similar to this.

Again great piece!!

Style
by: Anonymous

For the above poster, if you would know 5 cents worth of the shit you are saying..

First and foremost this is not a traditional tribal this is Oceanic South Sea style that includes; Polyensian, Maori Kiri-Turi, Marquesan, Tahiti style, Samoan style, Fiji Islands, Fatua-Hiva Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea etc.

This particular piece has influneces of the Marquesan style that usully use the bigger bold black design and Maori Kiri-Turi with the enfolding spirals.

This is a very nice piece and has a lot of meaning; as said this is not a fucking tribal red neck tattoo.

Get your shit streight, dont downrank a beautiful piece cause you think its something that it is not. If you dont like it, its fine but its good art work.

Traditional
by: Keoni

PLEASE DO NOT COPY THIS TATTOO. In a REAL traditional tattoo, everything has meaning. It is the story of the person's life. It is his and ONLY his alone. I get sad when i see FAKE "tribal" tattoo because they don't have any meaning to what they got. It doesn't fully represent who they really are. A real tribal tattoo will tell you the story of a person and the things important to him. Please only consult with tattoo artists specializing in tribal. Go directly to the islands if you want a real one.

If you want a legit one, here is a link to where i got mine.
It's one of the best in Bay (California). Rated #1 in 2011-2012. Lots of pro athletes come here all the time. Super busy, so make sure set up and appointment early.

gay
by: Anonymous

Tattoo artists (decent ones) loathe doing tribal, It's meaningless and outdated... you look like a straight out spastic.

Get something that represents you, not something that you think looks "sick"

p.s The guy doesn't look like he's the full quid... definitely missing a few brain cells
