Hey guys thanks for the good comments! It was a labour of love and the first of many similar pieces! For those who can't tell, it's not the rocks tattoo! I used a stencil for the very first section on the top arm and the rest was freehand! It's how I prefer to do all of my work! I wont send templates and ask kindly that u dont copy as it is unique to my client. surely you would prefer a custom design piece that no one else has ?? thats what paul deserves! www.evolutionskinstudios.co.uk

I take it on the authority of Tricia Allen, the grandmother of modern polynesian/marquesan/hawaiian about this matter, not a scrote keyboard warrior from the net.
And it isn't fair for the guy with the original art to have his original art to be ripped off by people who can't be bothered to go and find a bloody good artist to do this for them freehand. But I guess you'd rather spend £300+ on a pair of trainers that will last a few months than a fine piece of tattoo work which will last a time time. Douche

Firstly this is a LOT different from Dwayne Johnsons tattoo if you look closely and this one is done correctly with a good amount of space.
These tattoo's are NOT about the black in the skin but more the negative space left, or the 'flesh'

As for people asking for 'meanings' to this kind of thing... If ANYONE tells you there are specific meanings to this kind of work they are misinformed. For further information see Tricia Allen and her books. Only some Marquesan and some Samoan has meaning but you've all got to understand this is basically a revival of styles that were lost many many years ago due to missionaries going to the South Pacific and telling the people there that 'Tattoos are the devils creation'
True meanings of this stuff is all but gone. Whoever has meanings attached to Dwaynes tattoo work is also massively wrong! The thing that people call 'a sun' is in fact a fish head!

And to the person who said there is Maori and Tahitian in there, there isn't.

And my qualifications in all this? Easy, I work with a guy called Croc from Rarotonga. I am friends with Tricia Allen. I know the greats in the UK, Tomas Tomas, Chris Higgins, Neil Bass, and importantly, Alex Binnie. What these people don't collectively know just simply isn't worth knowing.
As for time, you are looking at least 2 days for a 1/2 sleeve and chest plate. More than likely 3 days for a full sleeve and chest plate. It ain't cheap but look for someone with a LOT of blackwork experience, who doesn't use stencils, and who does a day rate of approx £450 to £500. Any more for a day rate YOU ARE BEING RIPPED OFF!

And too all those asking for a 'template'? IF you came to my studio, or to any of the people mentioned, you will be told in no uncertain terms that this tattoo 'belongs to someone' and you 'cannot have it'
If a tattoo artist is willing to rip off someone elses work then they are not good tattoo artists and are basically scum. Yeah I said it. There is too much art theft in my industry. Think for yourselves people!!!
If you use any of the above artists you will have designs drawn directly onto the skin and refined, and this can take up to 3 hours to do, before a tattoo MACHINE (not gun! if an artist refers to a 'gun' they are idiots)these designs need to compliment YOUR body, YOUR frame, YOUR size...YOU. Not someone else. We NEVER use stencils for this work. It is sacrilege to do so.

So go my pretties, find an artist with some ability and some integrity and you'll be amazed at what YOU can have tattooed onto yourself. Why be a sheep when you can be a true individual.

Great piece, it fits you. For the Artist; Great job. Very few Tattoo Artist could have pull this off as clean as you did. You blended different styles together (Marquesan, Polyensian, Samoan, Maori Kiri-Turi, and some Tahiti style), which makes this piece unique in itself. I do not know what you charged for this multi-phase tattoo, but I would have charge a good coin. This piece is time consuming and painful, but well worth it.

Nice tattoo , it looks more aztec than anything else . I was looking up aztec tattoos and this one is the best I've seen except I can't see the rest of it only the front . Dude its an amazing tattoo, it definitely isnt the rocks tat it two totally differant cultures it seems to me the rocks is purely and specifically Samoan whereas I think this one resembles more of an aztec type of art by looking at the sun and characters around it. Thats just an observation but yea I dont really think it resembles polynesian culture so much as central american such as Aztec specifically, possibly Mayan, or it may be traced to the Incas (more south american). Either way amazing art and I agree with all you guys who say it a nice piece and just let the man do what he wants with his Money and his person. Nice tat though, Id like something like that detailed and very similar areas covered like chest shoulder and prob just the upper arm for me but with Celtic designs bc Id like to stay true to my heritage and I dont want to offend or step on anyones toes with a tattoo from a culture I dont belong to unless Im giving a blessing from someone within that specific culture. Thats just me though, ttyl everyone.

Polynesian tribal tattoos have meanings based on culture, tribes, ranks and life stories based on their lives growing up in that culture. Its a very nice piece you have, it just might offend some true polynesians who are proud of their culture. So if you get more tribals you might want to do more research, cause you might not want to get a high rank tattoo and walk around not knowing about it.

i personally agree with the person who said people that get random tats just coz they like it aint full quid but like you said you put meaning into that tat, obviously that does look similar to the rocks tat but hey, as long as you can tell the story that you want it to tell is all that matters and by the short bit you wrote about it, its the same as the rocks reason for getting it done, there is a web page that has the meanings of the rocks tat if you wanna look it up....tats with meaning are the best ones to get, but looks like you got it mixed hawaiian, samoan taulima and some form of maori/polynesian artwork in there, mixed stories but as long as you can tell it thats all that matters

Great tattoo.. Meaning wise for yur chest plate means a new day new era a new dawn, it has war and peace in there so it's a tat that a warrior would get after surving a battle... For the sleeve it tells a story but it's kinda mixed up its not the right order so it harder to read cause each symbol would tell a story but story changes is its next to a another symbols that actually cancels each other out.. Who ever put the sleeve together got the symbols order wrong but it's nice piece if u don't know how to read it? Just dOnt go to a OG polyneshian might get offended.

I don't usually post on these, but I've been flipping through different sites trying to find out what different symbols meant and this popped up. First I'd like to say great tat....the artist is definately worth checking out, that's the next page I'm going to. For the above poster, if you would know 5 cents worth of the shit you are saying..

First and foremost this is not a traditional tribal this is Oceanic South Sea style that includes; Polyensian, Maori Kiri-Turi, Marquesan, Tahiti style, Samoan style, Fiji Islands, Fatua-Hiva Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea etc.

This particular piece has influneces of the Marquesan style that usully use the bigger bold black design and Maori Kiri-Turi with the enfolding spirals.

This is a very nice piece and has a lot of meaning; as said this is not a fucking tribal red neck tattoo.

Get your shit streight, dont downrank a beautiful piece cause you think its something that it is not. If you dont like it, its fine but its good art work.

I get sad when i see FAKE "tribal" tattoo because they don't have any meaning to what they got. It doesn't fully represent who they really are. A real tribal tattoo will tell you the story of a person and the things important to him. Please only consult with tattoo artists specializing in tribal. Go directly to the islands if you want a real one.
