Mermaid Tattoo
I remember the artist asked me why a mermaid, my response to her was, "I like mermaids" or something alone the lines of that. It was a good enough reason for me to get it.
My first tattoo at first did not hold a great deal of meaning but when I think about it today I see various meanings of why I got it and what else I can do with it. I don't regret it. I did put a lot of thought and effort into it though. I knew I wanted something that was feminine, something that I liked. I have never liked butterflies or fairies, but I was always fascinated with mermaids. So I made up my mind and didn't have any second thoughts about it.
I searched high and low on the internet for images of a mermaid and I came across MANY. I knew what I wanted -- a fancy and somewhat dramatic tail but not too much, and I wanted something moreso elegant. I didn't want an animated mermaid, or a plain tail, or weird looking face on the mermaid.
It came down to one that was perfect (in my point of view) but it was kind of common. But I didn't care because it was going to be my mermaid. I personalized it by covering the T & A, adding some pearls, and adding a feather in her hair, because I am Native American. So I made it unique in its own way and I love it.
She doesn't give off the idea that anything is wrong... it's a soft image. It is as though she is gliding, reserved, relaxed, and peaceful.
At that time in my life their was nothing wrong, I was just a teenager set on getting a tattoo and a peircing. I was in a very good place and that's what it will always remind me of.
One day when I get more ideas I am going to add a few things with it, but until then it will just remain solely as the mermaid.
